Greetings,

The BCLC Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015. The agenda package is now available, here (Co-op user name and password required). Please note that only registered institutional member delegates or their designated alternates may cast votes at the AGM.

Three Board positions plus the position of Chair are coming open at AGM 2015. The Nominations Committee has determined all nominees eligible, therefore, the following individuals will be declared acclaimed during AGM 2015:

Chair Elect: Melanie Houlden, Chief Librarian, Surrey Public Library and current Director, BC Libraries Cooperative; nominated by the BC Libraries Cooperative Board of Directors

Director: Diana Davidson, Director, Public Library Services Branch, Alberta Municipal Affairs; nominated by Trevor Surgenor, Manitoba Public Library Service

Diana Davidson is the Director of the Public Library Services Branch, Municipal Affairs, with the Government of Alberta. Davidson served as chair of the Provincial Territorial Public Library Council during the development on NNELS and represented PTPLC at national consultations on how to better serve print-disabled public library patrons.  Davidson also sits on the Executive for The Alberta Library (TAL) consortium.  Davidson has a Ph.D. in literature and has been in the library sector in Alberta since 2002.

Director: Stan Gardner, Dean of Library Services, University College of the North; nominated by Mary Toma, Director, SPRUCE Library Cooperative

Dr. Gardner is currently the Dean of Library Services at University College of the North (UCN) in Manitoba. UCN has two campus libraries and two joint academic/public libraries in First Nation communities. Dr. Gardner received his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas in 1992 and his Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1975. He has worked for the Sultan Quaboos University Library; Director of the Learning Center at Colorado Mountain College; and worked with the Missouri Department of Higher Education as Assistant Commissioner of Libraries. He was in charge of the transfer of the State Library from the Department of Higher Education to the Secretary of State’s Office, where he became the Deputy State Librarian, and later the Interim State Librarian.

Dr. Gardner spent the ten years prior to UCN as the Library Director at the Nebraska State College System, Wayne State College. He has also served as a library consultant working with state and regional libraries in the USA.

Dr. Gardner is actively involved in the Manitoba Spruce Libraries Cooperative and works with the Manitoba Public Library Services Office in developing public libraries in Northern Manitoba as well as the other public and academic libraries in Manitoba.  He also serves as a board member on the Manitoba Library Consortium, Inc.

I am interested in serving on the BC Libraries Cooperative to represent all Manitoba libraries and believe I have the experience to make a positive contribution to the BC Libraries Cooperative Board. I have a strong belief in library services being available to all our citizens regardless of their location.
