From the Ground Up: Developing Staff Technology Training that Works
Date:  February 20, 2014
Time: 9 am -12pm Pacific
Location: West Vancouver Memorial Library, Welsh Hall
Cost: Free
Registration: https://grounduptech.eventbrite.ca/

In 2012, West Vancouver Memorial Library conducted its first technology skills inventory to assess the technology skill set of our staff. We asked staff from every department in the library to describe their competence and level of comfort in a wide range of skills representing all technologies used throughout the library. Information from the survey was used to identify strengths and knowledge gaps. This information, together with performance planning and strategic priorities, drove the development of a robust annual staff technology training curriculum. It also forms a baseline against which to measure our progress. In 2014, we are in the second year of this process and can report on what has worked, what we’ve learned, and what has changed.

This type of inventory can be used in any library, and can be a first step in developing meaningful and effective technology training, and in creating and promoting a culture of learning within your organization.

Takeaways from this half-day workshop will include a toolkit for evaluating technology skills, resources for planning and developing curriculum, and opportunities to workshop technology skills assessment tools as well as learning objectives and lesson plans for use at your home library.

Space for 30 people in person; this session will be live streamed by the Co-op at:
