BC Library Conference Pre-Conf Session – IT in the Library: The Power of Networks
Next month, the Co-op is helping to organize a full day pre-conference session aiming at bringing together IT and library staff. Created in partnership with organizers from Fraser Valley Regional, Greater Victoria Public and North Van City, the session is aimed at IT professionals (network managers, systems analysts) digital services librarians, public technology services staff, library systems staff, library managers/directors with responsibility for IT. The day is designed to provide a forum to discuss IT and technical issues and share best practices, and will be driven by the priorities and experiences of the attendees. We’ll begin with an overview of current issues and priorities in our community, then continue with lightning talks and roundtable discussions addressing both managerial and technical subjects identified by participants (examples might include: computer access for children; virtualization; digital strategy; SaaS and cloud services; technology skills development; IT project planning; PCs versus thin clients; securing IT infrastructure).
To help shape the agenda for the day, we’re asking anyone in the larger library community with an interest in IT and libraries to fill out this short survey – http://surveys.libraries.coop/limesurvey/index.php/348499/
To register for the event, which will be held April 19 8:30-3:30 at the conference location (Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront, 1133 W Hastings Street, Vancouver) go to https://bclaconnect.ca/it-in-the-library/
